What makes me turn up my nose at the sight of a UNLV Rebel T-shirt? Or pay twice as much for a pint of delicious ice cream? Or tattoo a trillium on my shoulder?
Brand Loyalty. I am a Haagen Dazs eating girl from Ontario, Canada who is a proud member of the Wolfpack!
The power of having loyal followers is immense, especially in our social age. Those loyal followers will tell their friends on facebook, criticize your competitors on yelp, tattoo your logo on themselves and post it on instagram, and overall be the best sales people you could ever find.
But building a strong brand and always keeping your brand promise is not easy! I once flew an airline which shall not be named *cough* United *cough*. The check-in line was crazy long, the layover was poorly planned and almost didn't give you enough time to go through customs, the food was expensive and barely edible, the flight attendants clearly did not want to be there, it was just an overall bad experience. Now, on my most recent flight I took an airline called EVA Air. WOW. They have lots of staff ready to check you in, you get to your seat and you have headphones, slippers, a care package (toothbrush, comb, etc.), and a bottle of water waiting for you, they served 2 delicious full meals (including free haagen dazs!) and had a great selection of movies, TV shows, and radio stations to keep you entertained. Who do you think I will fly every chance I get?
It is so easy to have one oversight and lose your star sales person, your brand ambassador. We as marketers can never underestimate the power of 1 customer. Sometimes, 1 customer, the right customer, is all we need to make our brand soar.
